BALTIMORE, Md. (Aug. 3, 2019)-Morgan State University alum and former track and field standout Shenel Crooke will represent her native country, St. Kitts and Nevis in the 2019 Pan American Games (July 28-August 11) in Lima, Peru.
A native of Basseterre, St. Kitts, Crooke is scheduled to compete in the 100 meter dash on Tuesday, August 6 at the Athletics Stadium.
A total of 48 events will be contested, equally divided among men and women. The women's 50 kilometer walk was added for this edition, marking the first time men and women will compete in an equal number of events.
Crooke, who is a six-time St. Kitts National champion, was a finalist in the 100 meter dash at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
While at Morgan State, Crooke was a stellar performer on the track. She capped off her collegiate career in 2017, by earning five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors. She would capture gold in the 60 meter dash at the MEAC Indoor championships and finished the outdoor season as a MEAC runner-up in the 100 meter dash, while helping the 4X100 relay team to a second-place finish with a season-best time of 45.64.
Competing in her final MSU Legacy Meet, she would earn silver in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and helped to lead the Lady Bears' 4X100 meter relay team to a first-place finish. She then claimed gold in the 100 meter dash at the ECAC Outdoor championships and concluded the season by advancing to her third consecutive NCAA East Preliminary Round, competing in both the 100 and 200 meter events.
On behalf of Morgan State head track and field coach Neville Hodge, the Morgan State University family would like to wish Crooke best of luck. Go Bears!
