Arjun Ramakrishnan awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 16, 2019) – Morgan State's Arjun Ramakrishnan has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee. The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically.

The NCAA postgraduate scholarships are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). In each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.

Earlier this season Ramakrishnan earned Morgan State's Effieetee M. Payne Academic Achievement Award and the Varsity "M" Club Award for Academic Excellence.

Ramakrishnan, who graduated in Business Management with a 3.789 GPA, was a four-time selection to the MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team for having a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Another academic award for Ramakrishnan included being named as a 2019 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards recipient as announced by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. He was also a mainstay as a member of the Dean's List and Morgan State's Athletic Director (AD) Honor Roll.

As a team captain this past season, Ramakrishnan was instrumental in leading the Bears to the program's 8th straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference North Division title and capturing its first ever MEAC Championship with a win against South Carolina State.

Though Morgan lost to No. 4 seed Wake Forest in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the players achieved something that no other Bears team had done before. They made their mark in the program's history with their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and they set the standard for every player that will come after them.
