Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (April 11, 2026)--Morgan State picked up its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, following a 7-0 victory over rival Coppin State on Senior Day at Lake Clifton Park Courts.
Morgan State (6-11, 1-3 MEAC) also put to rest a four-match losing skid with its win over the Eagles. Coppin State, which has lost its last nine contests, dropped to 1-12 on the season and ended the MEAC slate with an 0-5 record.
The Bears would shut Coppin State out by winning all nine matches played, claiming the three doubles contests and all six singles matches.
In doubles play, Morgan State's
Abdulraheem Isa and
Ilya Maltsev earned a No. 1 victory over the Eagles team of Aidan Thomas-Cogar and Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov 6-0.
Rhajzon Rankins and
Yessine Kerouat picked up a 6-1 win over Flavius Henderson and Dentry Mortimer at No. 2, while Roman Filma and
Antonio Santos defeated Liam Murtaugh and Andre Dogbefu 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3.
It was all Morgan State in singles play, as all six contests were won in straight sets. Rankins earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 and Maltsev won his No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-0. Filma secured a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Dogbefu, while
Mohamed Ridha Ghettas defeated Murtaugh 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4. Kerouat won at the No. 5 spot, defeating Coppin's Henderson 6-0, 6-3 and Santos earned a No. 6 victory over Mortimer 6-2, 6-3.
Next Up: The Bears will close out the regular season on Monday, April 13 against Beltway rival Howard at 2:30 p.m. at Banneker Recreation Center in Washington, D.C. Howard (1-12, 1-3 MEAC) is coming off a 4-2 loss at Navy on Sunday.
