Bears Have Strong Showing at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Dec. 7, 2019) –– The Morgan State men's track & field team opened the 2019-20 season on Saturday in the Navy Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy at the Wesley Brown Field House.

The Bears finished the day with eight top-5 finishes and placed first in three events.

Kobe Jordan-Rhooms led the way by successfully defending his high jump title from a year ago at the Navy Winter Invitational. The junior claimed the high jump with a personal best and IC4A qualifying leap of 2.10 meters. He also placed third in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 14.28 meters.

Sophomore speedster Jordan Cofield edged out Texas State's Myles Anders by .01 seconds to finish first in the 60 meter dash with an IC4A qualifying time of 6.90.

Junior Keon Rantin captured first place in the 400 meter dash by crossing the tape with a personal best and IC4A qualifying time of 47.50. Rantin's time is also a new Wesley Brown Field House record.

Freshman newcomer Almighty Williamson made his collegiate track debut by recording a 8.20 in the preliminary heats of the 60 meter hurdles. He placed fourth in the finals with a time of 8.30.

Morgan State freshmen Joseph Okonofua, and Justin Coelho competed in the 800 meter run and finished in sixth (2:00.99) and ninth place (2:03.67), respectively.

The 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Brandon James, Keon Rantin, Almighty Williamson and Ra'Mel Manley posted a sixth place time of 3:19.51.

In other events from the day, sophomore Lamar Davis tallied a personal best mark of 6.93 meters to finish sixth in the long jump. Senior thrower Kurt Goodlitt came in ninth place in the weight throw. He threw for a personal best distance of 16.79 meters.

Morgan State will be off until Friday, Jan. 10 when it travels to Manhattan, N.Y. to take part in the HBCU Battle & College Expo.
