BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 5, 2018)-The Lady Bears' bowling team traveled to Richmond, Va. and bowled in the Virginia Union University Invitational over the weekend. Morgan State would finish with a 6-7 mark and placed 11th out of 19 teams.
Morgan State would suffer some disappointing losses, but also won some tough matches, including a signature win over nationally ranked Duquesne University.
The ladies were a little shorthanded, but gamely fought hard all weekend.
The brightest spot in the competition was the performance of senior Kiersten Bateman, who brought home three awards from the tournament. Bateman, from tiny Willards, Md., finished the weekend with 993 pins and was named VUU Invitational MVP. She also received the award for high game of the weekend, after collecting 248 pins against No. 12 Sacred Heart and high average (198).
Morgan State head coach Wendell Burke would like to extend congratulations to Bateman, Diamond Hunter, Devin Hill-Bartlett, Alyssa Berke, Leila Burke, and Touri Holmes for their good work this weekend.
The Lady Bears return to action this weekend, as they open up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with the MEAC No. 1 event in Wilmington, Del. (Nov. 10-11). This will be the first of two MEAC events this season.
With the addition of associate bowling members Monmouth and UAB to the MEAC this season, the 2018-19 campaign will see the end of MEAC division play. Teams will now compete in a pair of conference round-ups during the regular season. The second MEAC competition will be held on Feb. 23-24 in Greensboro, N.C.
