Yale Opener Results
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Dec. 10, 2017)-The Morgan State women's track and field team closed out the 2017 portion of their indoor schedule on Saturday at the Yale Season Opener at Coxe Cage on the campus of Yale University.
The Lady Bears would finish the day with five first-place titles and 24 top-10 finishes.
On the track, Morgan State picked up two wins with Annastacia Barham winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.02. Barham also ran a personal-best in the 60 meter dash, finishing in third at 7.68, while
Kevena Jones crossed the line in fourth with a time of 7.78.
Barham would later join teammates Valencia McDowell,
Brittany Meads and Infinnatie Rowe to help the Lady Bears' 4X400 meter relay team run a time of 3:49.53 to win gold.
Saborrah Cooper had a personal best in the 60m hurdles at 8.75 to finish 2
nd, while Lenaami Morton finished fifth in a time of 9.25.
Rowe placed second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 58.20, while Meads ran a time of 58.92 to place fourth and McDowell crossed the line in a time of 59.51 to place fifth.
Chantai Smith finished the 800 meter run in third after finishing in a time of 2:18.46. Aureilya Harris came in eigth-place in a time of 2:22.32.
In the field events, the Lady Bears recorded three first-place finishes. Jaila Mason captured the high jump with a height of 5-07.00 and
Jasmyn Hall claimed the shot put with a toss of 42-08.75. Alantra Mines would win the triple jump with a leap of 38-11.00, while Zhane Washington came in second with a jump of 38-10.25.
Washington would also place second in the long jump with a jump of 17-08.00 and
Rochelle Johnson placed third at 17-07.50.
Nikelene McLean threw a personal-best in the weight throw with a toss of 48-04.00 to finish ninth.
Morgan State will be off until the New Year when they travel to Fairfax, Va. on Jan. 6, 2018 to compete in the George Mason Father Diamond Invitational.
