NORFOLK, Va. – Morgan State's
Erick Hunter has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) 2025-26 Male Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Currently competing for a roster spot with the NFL's Detroit Lions, Hunter rounded out his Morgan State career with 2025 All-MEAC First Team distinction, as well as picking up multiple All-American honors - BOXTOROW HBCU All-American Team, FCS Football Central All-American Third Team, and Phil Steele's FCS All-American Third Team.
Coming back from an injury the year prior, Hunter was a finalist for the Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award, Buck Buchanan Award, and HBCU Player of the Year. Hunter finished his career in orange and blue ranked second in program history with 298 tackles.
Hunter was a student-athlete representative/spokesperson on numerous occasions for the department, and spent his free time volunteering for the girls flag football clinic, Morgan State annual golf tournament, and more. The Maryland native graduated with a degree in Business Administration this past May.
Hunter is the second consecutive Bear to earn the award and the fifth in the last seven years.
The MEAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award recognizes a male student-athlete who has distinguished himself academically, athletically, and through service and leadership. The recipient must be in his final season of intercollegiate eligibility and competition under MEAC and NCAA regulations in the sport for which he was nominated.
Candidates are evaluated on their academic achievement, athletic excellence, commitment to service and leadership, and overall impact on their campus, local community and/or at the regional or national level.
