Volleyball

From Her Perspective…Morgan Volleyball in Africa, Tameary Wardlaw

Today was one of those days that reminded me how much more this trip is than just volleyball.

This morning, we visited the U.S. Embassy in Botswana. We got to hear from several people who talked about their work and the relationship between the United States and Botswana. It was really interesting to learn about things that I honestly don't get to think about very often. Being able to ask questions and hear different perspectives gave me a better understanding of the country and the connections being made here.

Later, we got back on the court and played against the Botswana team. We ended up winning, but it definitely wasn't easy. They played hard, competed the entire match, and challenged us in a lot of ways. It was one of those matches where the score doesn't tell the whole story because both teams left everything on the court. I have a lot of respect for the way they played and the energy they brought.

One thing that has stood out to me throughout this trip is how volleyball can connect people so quickly. Even when we come from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, we can step onto the court and instantly have something in common. It's been really cool getting to meet new people through the sport and share experiences that go beyond the game itself.

Today was a great balance of learning and competing. I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience a different culture, represent my team, and create memories with my teammates that I'll remember long after this trip is over. I'm excited to see what the next few days bring.
