Morgan State Men’s Basketball Uses Second-Half Surge to Defeat Hornets

Elijah Davis tied the school record with 15 assists, matching the program’s single-game mark in a standout performance.

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 21, 2026) – Senior guard Alfred Worrell Jr. poured in a game-high 25 points to power Morgan State to an 82–68 victory over Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown Saturday night at Hill Field House.
 
The Bears used a dominant second-half surge to pull away, improving to 11–14 overall and 7–3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play. With the win, Morgan State remains just one game behind Howard for first place in the conference standings.

Delaware State fell to 6–20 overall and 1–10 in league action, suffering its eighth consecutive road loss.

OPENING TIP
Alfred Worrell Jr. led the Bears with a game-high 25 points on 5-15 shooting from the field was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. He also added five boards, two assists and a blocked shot in 36 minutes.
Elijah Davis finished with 15 points, a game-high 15 assists (tied the school record), and seven rebounds in 39 minutes.
Eugene Alvin added 19 points (8-10 FG) and seven rebounds off the bench. Christian Oliver and Rob Lawson added nine points apiece.
• Jalen StClair paced the Hornets with 11 points (4-14 FG). Cyril Obasogie scored 10 points with a game-high eight rebounds, while Dean Shepherd chipped in 10 points.

THE DIFFERENCE
• Morgan State shot 46 percent (27-of-59) from the field and went 8-of-23 from three-point range. DSU shot 39 percent overall and shot just 3-of-14 from deep.
• The Bears converted 74 percent (20-of-27) from the free-throw line, while the Hornets shot 65 percent (15-of-23).
• Morgan State pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and held a 44-35 advantage on the glass.
• The Hornets outscored the Bears in the paint by a 38-32 margin, while the Bears held a 21-15 advantage in fastbreak points.
• DSU held a 31-24 margin in bench scoring.
• The opening half featured nine lead changes and six ties, as neither team was able to create separation.
• Coming out of the half, DSU picked up where it left off in the opening period. Cyril Obasogie went on a personal 4–0 run with back-to-back post hooks, giving the Hornets a 37–34 lead.
Elijah Davis quickly answered with consecutive layups to put Morgan State back in front.
• The matchup ultimately featured 13 lead changes and seven ties, a highly contested battle throughout the evening. After Obasogie gave DSU a 42–40 edge, Eugene Alvin responded with a three-pointer to make it 43–42 Morgan. On the next possession, Alfred Worrell knocked down another three-pointer — both baskets assisted by Davis, whose 10th assist of the night put the Bears ahead 46–42.
• Those back-to-back triples helped turn the tide and create separation. Morgan State followed with a 10–0 run, capped by a Worrell pin-down three, again assisted by Davis, with 11:49 remaining. The Bears never relinquished the lead from there.
 
NOTABLE

• Morgan State leads the all-time series, 69–47, and completed the season sweep of the Hornets.
• The Bears are now a perfect 8–0 this season, when taking a lead into halftime.
• With his season-high 15 assists, Elijah Davis matched the school record set by Kameron Hobbs, who tallied 15 assists against Virginia–Lynchburg Dragons in 2023. 
Alfred Worrell Jr. is on t
he verge of joining the 1,000-point club. After scoring 25 points tonight against Delaware State, the senior increased his career total to 974 points.
• Associate Head Coach Chretian Lukusa earned his first career victory while filling in for Kevin Broadus, who missed the game due to illness.
