Morgan State Men’s Basketball Late Rally Falls Short to North Carolina Central

DURHAM, N.C. (Feb. 16, 2026) – Senior guard Elijah Davis scored a game-high 25 points, but Morgan State came up short against North Carolina Central, 80–76, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchup Monday night at McDougald-McLendon Arena. The loss marked the Bears' first defeat since Jan. 12, when they also fell to the Eagles at Hill Field House.

The victory improved North Carolina Central to 11–13 overall and 6–3 in MEAC play, while snapping Morgan State's six-game winning streak. The Bears dropped to 10–14 overall and 6–3 in conference action.

OPENING TIP
• Gage Lattimore scored 17 of his team-high 21 points in the first half. He shot 6 of 14 from the floor, 5 of 9 from 3-point territory, and was perfect from the stripe (4-4 FT).
• Diote Johnson had 16 points with five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Joe Slack scored 14 points, Kelechi Okworogwo had 11 points and five blocks, and Kyric Davis added 10 points, 10 boards, and six blocked shots.
Elijah Davis led the Bears with a game-high 25 points (8-15 FG) with five boards in 36 minutes.
Walter Peggs Jr. and Alfred Worrell Jr. added 13 points apiece. Christian Oliver added 10 points with seven boards off the bench.

• The Bears converted 73 percent (17-of-23) from the free-throw line, while the Eagles shot 80 percent (20-of-25).
• Morgan State pulled down 22 offensive rebounds and held a 44-36 advantage on the glass.
• The teams were tied scoring 28-28 inside the paint, while the Bears held a 23-12 advantage in fastbreak points.
• The Bears held a 27-8 margin in bench scoring.
• NCCU held the lead for 35 of the 40 minutes.
• The Bears battled uphill for much of the first half, as Gage Lattimore paced the Eagles with 17 points before the break.
• Morgan State forward Marland Harris sustained an injury and attempted to play through it, but ultimately exited the game with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
• The Eagles closed the half on an 18–2 run to take a 51–30 lead into intermission. Morgan State was held without a field goal over the final five minutes of the half.
• The Bears recorded just six assists in the opening period, while the Eagles shot 54 percent from the field.
Elijah Davis continued to apply pressure on the Eagles' defense, converting another tough layup, while Walter Peggs Jr. knocked down a three-pointer as part of a 7–0 run that trimmed the deficit to 69–55.
• Davis then willed the Bears within 12 at 73–61 and attacked the rim again for another bucket to make it 73–63.
• Morgan State trailed 75–63 with five minutes remaining, but the Eagles endured a three-minute scoring drought marked by multiple turnovers, giving the Bears an opening.
Alfred Worrell Jr. drained a transition three-pointer to cut the lead to 75–66 with under five minutes to play. Moments later, Worrell struck again — using a pump fake before burying another triple — to pull the Bears within 75–71 with 2:02 remaining.
• Down the stretch, Kelechi Okworogwo was fouled with 27.9 seconds left by Worrell, who was assessed his fourth foul. Okworogwo split the free throws. Davis answered with a layup, and the Bears called timeout, trailing 78–74 with 17.5 seconds remaining. However, the Eagles converted late free throws to secure the 80–76 victory.
