BALTIMORE, Md. (October 10, 2026) – For the second consecutive week, Morgan State football delivered a dramatic finish, finding a way to win when the pressure was at its highest.
Senior running back Keith Jenkins Jr. leaped over the pile and stretched across the goal line for a one-yard touchdown with just 24 seconds remaining, capping a dramatic late-game drive to lift the Bears to a thrilling 28-27 comeback victory over Robert Morris University on Saturday afternoon at Hughes Stadium. In front of an announced crowd of 11,200 fans, Morgan State sent its Homecoming faithful into celebration with a heart-stopping finish that extended the Bears' winning streak to four games.
The victory improved Morgan State to 5-1 overall, marking the program's best start since 2009. It also marked the Bears' third consecutive Homecoming victory.
The latest comeback came just seven days after Morgan State stunned Villanova, 38-35, on Oct. 3. In that contest, quarterback Cameron Edge engineered a late-game drive before scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 36 seconds remaining. Against Robert Morris, Edge once again directed a clutch final possession, setting the stage for Jenkins' game-winning score. Two weeks, two last-minute drives and two statement victories have showcased the Bears' resilience and ability to deliver in the biggest moments.
Trailing 27-21 after Robert Morris reclaimed the lead with 4:16 remaining in the fourth quarter, Morgan State needed another response. Edge delivered, orchestrating an 11-play, 75-yard march that showcased the Bears' composure under pressure.
Edge sparked the drive with a critical scramble that carried Morgan deep into Robert Morris territory before he was brought down at the one-yard line. With the game hanging in the balance, Jenkins took care of the rest, leaping over the pile and across the goal line for his second touchdown of the afternoon. Gavin Fetty's extra point gave the Bears a 28-27 lead, completing the comeback and igniting the Hughes Stadium crowd.
For Edge, the Homecoming victory was another reason to celebrate, but the senior quarterback knows the Bears cannot afford to lose sight of the work still ahead.
"We're happy to get a win here in front of our home crowd, Homecoming," Edge said. "But we know offensively we've got a lot of things to clean up."
The Colonials had one final opportunity, but a sack-fumble by Donovan Moyer was recovered by Jordan Jeudy as Morgan State's defense held firm to preserve the Homecoming triumph.
Asked whether he would prefer a more comfortable victory rather than another dramatic finish, Morgan State coach Damon Wilson made it clear that the result matters more than the manner in which it comes.
"I just want to win. So whatever it takes to win," Wilson said. "But the one thing that I know in life, when you're faced with adversity, your true character comes out, and I think we've been facing adversity a number of times this year, and our true character came out. That says a lot."
Jenkins was the centerpiece of the Bears' offensive attack, finishing with a season-high 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. He also contributed five receptions for 47 yards and averaged 20.5 yards on two kickoff returns, showcasing his versatility in all three phases of the game.
Edge, making his sixth career start, completed 18 of 29 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown while adding 61 rushing yards on seven carries. His mobility proved critical on the game-winning possession, including two key scrambles that helped position the Bears for the decisive score.
Joseph Towler continued his strong play with three receptions for 66 yards, highlighted by a 56-yard touchdown reception from Edge in the third quarter. The explosive connection brought Morgan State within one point at 14-13 and gave the Bears a much-needed spark. Justin Perry and Malachi Bryant chipped in three receptions apiece for 27 and 26 yards, respectively.
Morgan State finished with 369 total yards of offense, including 188 rushing yards, against a Robert Morris defense that had difficulty containing Jenkins and the Bears' ground attack.
The Bears' defense was tested by a productive Colonials offense that generated 437 total yards, but Morgan State came up with key stops when it mattered most.
Darius Jones led the Bears with 10 tackles, while Justin McIlwain added nine tackles and a tackle for loss. Kristopher Boyd contributed seven tackles in the trenches, and Donovan Moyer delivered a disruptive performance with three tackles for loss, one sack, a forced fumble, and two quarterback hurries.
Robert Morris quarterback Carson Haggard completed 23 of 30 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns. Attawan Mays recorded four receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown, while Noah Schaerli added 93 yards on three catches. Defensively, Amanuel Dickson and Jake Lopinto each recorded nine tackles for the Colonials.
The Bears faced an early two-touchdown deficit after Robert Morris scored on a 28-yard touchdown pass in the opening quarter and a four-yard quarterback run early in the second. Fetty put Morgan State on the scoreboard with a 30-yard field goal just before halftime, then added a 19-yard field goal early in the third quarter to make it 14-6.
Morgan State continued to chip away when Edge connected with Towler for the 56-yard touchdown. Robert Morris answered with a 54-yard scoring pass, but the Bears responded again. Jenkins broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run, and Alex Simmons converted a two-point pass to tie the game at 21-21 late in the third quarter.
The Colonials regained the lead on a nine-yard touchdown reception by Eyasu Palmore midway through the fourth quarter, setting the stage for Morgan State's unforgettable final possession.
Morgan State will look to extend its winning streak to six games next week against Tennessee State, a milestone that would mark the program's longest winning streak since 1979. That historic season saw the Bears string together eight consecutive victories, capture the MEAC championship, and earn a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
With momentum building and history within reach, Morgan State will look to keep its win streak going before opening MEAC play against Howard at Hughes Stadium.
