#24 Morgan State Falls to Tennessee State, Snaps Four-Game Winning Streak

Postgame Notes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 17, 2026) — Morgan State football saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Saturday evening, falling 25-16 to Tennessee State at Nissan Stadium. The loss marked the Bears' first defeat against an FCS opponent this season and snapped their longest winning streak of the campaign.

The Bears, who entered the game ranked No. 24 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 and No. 1 in the Black College Football Division I FCS Poll, fell to 5-2 overall as they prepare to open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play next week.

Senior quarterback Cameron Edge threw for 162 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice and sacked three times. Redshirt senior running back Keith Jenkins Jr. led the Bears' ground attack with 113 rushing yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Joseph Towler caught three passes for 56 yards and a score.

Tennessee State improved to 2-5 overall, earning the victory in front of its homecoming crowd. The Tigers also maintained their perfect record in the all-time series against Morgan State, improving to 5-0 in a matchup that dates back to 1972.

Morgan State finished with 301 yards of total offense, including 139 rushing yards, but struggled to establish any offensive rhythm and sustain drives on the night. Despite productive performances from Jenkins and Towler, turnovers and missed opportunities proved costly in the nine-point defeat.

Tennessee State wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Quarterback Daylin Lee helped orchestrate the opening drive, converting a third-and-6 with a 27-yard pass to Jeremiah Treadwell. The Tigers followed with a trick play as Treadwell flipped the ball to Jaden Jones on a reverse, who connected with a wide-open Cam Bulluck for a 50-yard touchdown. The extra-point attempt was unsuccessful, giving Tennessee State a 6-0 lead just 1:54 into the contest.

Morgan State's opening possession ended when Edge was intercepted by cornerback Rymen Mosley, who returned the ball 18 yards to the Tennessee State 33-yard line. The Tigers capitalized on the turnover, with Preston Hurless converting a 25-yard field goal to cap a 13-play, 60-yard drive and extend the lead to 9-0 with 6:49 remaining in the first quarter.

Mosley intercepted Edge again on the Bears' next possession, ending another Morgan State scoring opportunity late in the opening period.

The Bears' defense responded by forcing Tennessee State's first three-and-out and forcing the Tigers to punt, setting up the Morgan State offense at midfield.

Jenkins sparked the Bears' response with a 17-yard run before breaking free for a 28-yard touchdown to put Morgan State on the board. Gavin Fetty's extra point trimmed the deficit to 9-7 with 12:14 remaining in the second quarter.

Morgan State continued to build momentum midway through the period when Fetty connected on a 22-yard field goal, giving the Bears their first lead at 10-9.

Tennessee State answered before halftime. Lee connected with Bulluck on a 41-yard pass and later gained 16 yards on a quarterback keeper to move the Tigers into scoring position. Following a Morgan State offside penalty, Lee threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Brock Montgomery in the back corner of the end zone. The two-point conversion attempt failed, but Tennessee State carried a 15-10 advantage into the break.

Morgan State came out of halftime looking to regain control, and Edge delivered a 30-yard touchdown pass to Towler to put the Bears back in front. The extra-point attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the Bears with a narrow 16-15 lead with 11:18 remaining in the third quarter.

Tennessee State responded with a time-consuming scoring drive, using 18 plays to cover 65 yards and more than seven minutes of game time. Hurless capped the possession with a 27-yard field goal, restoring the Tigers' lead at 18-16.

After forcing another Morgan State three-and-out, Tennessee State extended its advantage. Lee connected with Francisco Pratts III for an 11-yard touchdown, and Hurless added the extra point to give the Tigers a 25-16 cushion.

The Bears were unable to mount another scoring drive in the fourth quarter as Tennessee State's defense continued to apply pressure and limit Morgan State's offensive opportunities.

Despite the loss, Morgan State's defense produced several impactful performances. Junior safety Bryce Djossou led the Bears with seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup. Sophomore defensive tackle Anthony Chuman added four tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack while making his presence felt along the defensive front.

Tennessee State limited the Bears to their lowest-scoring outing since facing Arizona State on Sept. 5, and recorded three sacks, helping force Morgan State into challenging third-down situations. The Bears converted just two of 11 attempts, while the two interceptions proved costly in a game decided by nine points.

Following the setback, Morgan State will turn its attention to MEAC competition as it looks to regroup and build on the success of its four-game winning streak.

"We have to protect the football and play better on third down," Morgan State head coach Damon Wilson said.

The Bears will look to bounce back when they return home to open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play against Howard on Saturday, Oct. 24. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Hughes Stadium, as Morgan State looks to regroup and continue its pursuit of the program's first winning season since 2014.
