Bears score late TD on blocked FG to down Miles College, 24-17

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 27, 2025) -- Jadon Carter, a nominee for the prestigious Aeneas Williams Award, hadn't found the end zone since his 77-yard blocked field goal return in the Bears' 2024 win over Norfolk State.

With 77 seconds remaining and Miles College's Reid Grek lining up for a 27-yard attempt that could have given the Golden Bears the lead and capped a stunning comeback, Carter struck again. Josiah Blake burst through the edge and got a hand on the kick, sending the ball caroming to the turf, where Carter scooped it up and raced 94 yards for the touchdown that sealed Morgan State's 24-17 win over Miles in the 41st Annual Circle City Classic at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Bears earned their second consecutive win to improve to 2-3, thanks to a balanced team effort despite missing most of the game without their leading rusher, Jason Collins Jr., and quarterback Kobe Muasau, who had scored seven of the team's 11 touchdowns before the game.

Despite their absence, the Bears gained 329 yards, including 253 yards on the ground.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Raymond Moore III played a key role in the win, completing 8 of 21 passes for 63 yards while accounting for two touchdowns—one through the air and one on the ground. He also led the Bears with 83 rushing yards on 10 carries. Fellow redshirt freshman Randall Nauden added 75 yards on 16 carries.

The defense sacked Miles College's quarterback Brinley Vandiver three times and accounted for eight tackles for loss and limited the Golden Bears to just 29 rushing yards.
Erick Hunter and Jeremiah Wynn led the way with six tackles apiece, while Hunter also added 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup. Blanche Gold had a big third-down sack of Vandiver during the Golden Bears' last drive of the ballgame.

Vandiver led Miles College (0-5, 0-2) by completing 24-of-38 passes for 260 yards, including a pair of touchdowns.

The Bears got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter when Raymond Moore III scrambled for a 15-yard touchdown to give the Bears a 7-0 lead.

Alex Amaya added to the scoring when he booted a 23-yard field goal just before halftime to take a 10-0 lead.

Morgan would go on to extend to a 17-0 lead when Moore completed a short pass to Malique Leatherbury for a score that capped a time-consuming 15-play, 74-yard drive with 6:07 remaining in the third quarter.

From that point, Miles responded with a 17-0 run of their own.

Brinley tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass over the middle to Roderick Thomas in the heart of the defense, with Hunter breathing down the QB. The Golden Bears trailed 17-7 (1:40) at the end of the third quarter. It was the first points scored on Morgan's defense in almost seven quarters.

The action would pick up for Miles College in the fourth quarter. Brinley connected on a 67-yard bomb to speedy wideout Glen Williams (9 rec., 138 yds), who found himself open behind the secondary to pull to within 17-14 with 11:02 remaining.

The Golden Bears would go on to tie the ballgame at 17-17 when Grek hit a 33-yard field goal with 9:15 left to go.

Morgan State heads back on the road next week to face another non-conference opponent, taking on the Georgetown Hoyas at Cooper Field on October 4.
