BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 13, 2025)--The Bears volleyball team returned home for Match 2 of the Battle of the Beltway and fell to the Georgetown Hoyas, 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Hoyas improved to 4-5 on the season, while Morgan State dropped to 3-5 and lost its last two home contests. Georgetown also remained unbeaten against Morgan State in the series' seven meetings.
Â
Georgetown came into Hill Field House winners of its last two matches and continued the momentum, starting the opening set by scoring the first eight points to eventually win 25-11. But the Bears would show unbelievable fight and resilience in the next two sets.
Â
Daniela Ferreira led the charge with a match-high 10 kills with six coming in the second set. Jordan Willams made considerable contributions on both the offensive and defensive side of the floor, finishing with three kills and a team-leading two blocks.
Isabelle Brown recorded 13 assists.
Â
Morgan would ultimately drop the second set, 25-23. The Hoyas executed their serves at a high level, tallying 11 aces, despite committing seven service errors. Outside hitter Dionna Mitchell lead both teams in kills in Set 2 with six. Middle blocker Kamryn Lee-Caracci also made huge contributions, adding five kills, an ace and a block.
Â
Tension in the third set was palpable as Morgan looked to spark a late comeback. Georgetown would again start the set fast getting out to a 5-0 lead, however the common trend of the afternoon was the Bears scratching and clawing their way back no matter the deficit. A kill by Ferreira tied the match at 18. Each time Georgetown would create separation Morgan would answer with a run of their own. Three ties in third set alone would set the tone for what was an exciting finish at Hill Field House.
Â
Morgan tied the score at 21 and 22, before Georgetown would eventually close out the match winning the third and final set, 25-23.
Â
The Battle of the Beltway finale takes place on Sunday in Washington, D.C., as the Bears look to bounce back against host George Washington at 2 p.m. at the Smith Center.
