Volleyball Drops Road Contest At George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 14, 2025)--Morgan State concluded the three-day Battle of the Beltway tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-14) non-conference loss on the road at George Washington inside the Charles E. Smith Center.

Morgan State, in the midst of a four-match losing skid, dropped to 3-6, while George Washington improved to 5-4 and extended its winning streak to four.

Hanna Nemeth paced the Morgan State offense with nine kills, while Isabelle Brown led the Bears with 26 assists, six digs and two solo blocks. Jada Williams hit .615 with eight kills and recorded a block to give her 233 for her career and move into a seventh-place tie with Dominique Bozier (233 from 2007-10).

The Revolutionaries were led by Cayla Cogan, who finished with a match-high 13 kills and recorded a match-best .667 hitting percentage, while Taylor Treahy added eight kills and also hit for a match-best .667. Sydney Hasenfratz and Alexis Rodriguez each added eight kills, Lydia Zeng totaled a match-high 12 digs and Abby Markworth collected 37 assists, as GW avenged a 3-0 loss to Morgan State in the last meeting in Baltimore (1/29/21). The match was played during the Spring 2021 semester due to the 2020 campaign being cancelled due to Covid-19.

Morgan State will conclude its non-conference schedule on Friday, Sept. 19, when it travels to Jersey City, N.J. to take on Saint Peter's at 6 p.m.

The Bears lead the all-time series, 4-2. The two teams last met on Aug. 29, 2018 in Baltimore for Morgan State's home opener. Morgan would defeat the Peacocks in five sets.
