NORFOLK, Va., May 7, 2025 — No. 1 seed Howard continued its strong campaign with a 5-1 victory over fourth-seeded Morgan State in the final game of day one at the 2025 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Tournament at NSU Softball Field on the Norfolk State University campus.
With the win, the Bison advanced to Thursday's 8 p.m. winners bracket game against No. 3 seed Delaware State. The winner will earn a spot in Saturday's championship game.
In a tightly contested matchup, both teams remained scoreless through the first three innings. Howard broke through in the bottom of the fourth as Merci Hart singled to left, setting up pinch runner Wisdom Colbert to score the game's first run.
Morgan State responded in the top of the fifth with a solo run, as Morgan Alvarez drew a walk and eventually came around to score, tying the game at 1-1.
The Bison quickly answered in the bottom of the fifth as Alyssa Vasquez delivered an RBI single to bring home Lealani Ricks. A sacrifice fly from Hart allowed Lauryn Jones to cross the plate, pushing Howard ahead 3-1.
Howard added insurance in the sixth, capitalizing on a clutch two-RBI double from Maryn Jordan that scored Angel Riggins and Ameenah Ballenger, extending the lead to 5-1. The Bison defense held strong in the seventh to close out the win.
