(April 24, 2025) — The Morgan State men's tennis team demonstrated dominance on the court Thursday, securing a decisive 4-1 victory over No. 5 seeded Howard at the Cary Tennis Center. This impressive win propelled the Bears into the semifinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament.
With momentum on their side, Morgan heads into the semifinals with a clear message: they are a force to be reckoned with in this MEAC championship pursuit.
Morgan improved their overall record to 8-15, while the Bison dropped to 6-14.
The Bears seized an early advantage by securing the crucial doubles point, setting the stage for a promising match. Majdi Ben Abdelwahed and Yessine Kerouat demonstrated resilience and teamwork, grinding out a 6-4 victory on court No. 2 against Howard's Kaosie Nwokedi and Daniel Dunac. Their win was hard-earned, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure. Niles Rachal and Mohammed Ridh Ghettas mirrored their teammates' success, delivering an equally decisive 6-4 defeat to Howard's Kendrick Lash and Hassimiyou Dieng.
Carpenter, fresh off his MEAC Player of the Year title, showcased the skill that earned him the accolade with a hard-fought victory in singles. Facing a determined Michael Major Jr., an All-MEAC selection from Howard, Carpenter was put to the test, particularly in a tightly contested first set. He demonstrated resilience to edge out the first set 7-5, before finding his rhythm and ultimately secured a 6-2 win in the second set, sealing the match and continuing his impressive streak on court No. 1.
The Bears continued to dominate the court, securing crucial victories in the number 4 and 5 singles matches. Niles Rachal added an impressiv3 6-0, 6-3 win against Kendrick Lash, while Yessine Keroat dismantled Howard's Hassimiyou Dieng 6-4, 6-2. These victories sealed the win for the Bears as they advance to Friday's semifinals versus the No. 1 seeded South Carolina State Bulldogs.
