Carpenter Reigns as Two-Time MEAC Tennis King

Mikeal Carpenter named 2025 MEAC Player of the Year.

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 23, 2025) — Morgan State University's Mikeal Carpenter has once again cemented his place as a dominant force in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), earning the prestigious title of MEAC Player of the Year for the second time in his impressive career. The announcement, made Wednesday evening during the All-MEAC Tennis Awards ceremony, underscores Carpenter's significant impact on the court and his vital role in Morgan's success within the conference.

This repeat honor solidifies his legacy as one of the most accomplished players in MEAC tennis history.

A senior standout, Carpenter has consistently delivered exceptional performances throughout the season, showcasing both impressive athleticism and strong leadership qualities on the court. His contributions have been instrumental in the Bears' success, solidifying his reputation as one of the most talented players in the MEAC.

This spring has been a breakout season for Carpenter, who has firmly established himself as the Bears' dominant force in number one singles. His remarkable 13-1 overall record speaks volumes about his consistency and skill. Perhaps most impressively, Carpenter has been untouchable in conference play, boasting a perfect 4-0 record against his rivals.

In the doubles competition, Carpenter demonstrated his versatility by partnering with multiple players, showcasing adaptability and teamwork. While he played alongside various teammates, his most successful pairing was with senior Makkijha Brown. Together, Carpenter and Brown forged a strong partnership, evidenced by their commendable 4-2 record.

With a record of 7-14 overall and 2-3 in conference play, Morgan has clinched the No. 4 seed in the upcoming tournament. This hard-fought placement sets the stage for a highly anticipated opening round matchup against No. 5 Howard University. The two teams are scheduled to face off on Thursday, April 24, at 2 p.m. in what promises to be a compelling contest.

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, with first serve set at 12:00 p.m. The winner of each semifinal will advance to the title match.

The 2025 MEAC Men's Tennis semifinals and championship matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Bears will be looking to make a deep run in the tournament and challenge for the MEAC title.
