CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 23, 2025) — The Morgan State men's track and field team ventured to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Charlotte 49er Classic, a two-day meet hosted by the University of Charlotte. The Charlotte-Irwin Belk Track and Field Center served as the battleground where the Bears sought to make their mark against a competitive field of regional athletes. The weekend culminated in a respectable showing, with the Bears securing nine top-10 finishes across various events.
The field events were a showcase for the talent of junior Zackery Dillon. In the shot put, he secured a commendable second place with a powerful throw of 16.96 meters, a testament to his strength and technique. He continued his impressive showing in the discus, where he unleashed a remarkable toss of 48.06 meters, earning him eighth place in a highly competitive field. Dillon's dedication and skill are evident, and he promises to be a top contender in future competitions.
Junior Kimani Coffee added a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.47 meters.
Freshman KeSean-Jordan Rhooms delivered a solid outing in the triple jump competition, clearing a height of 24.28 meters.
On the track, sophomore Jadon Ra-Akbar secured a hard-fought fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in a time of 14.64 seconds.
Maxim Copeland demonstrated a solid performance in the sprinting events, securing a 10th place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.65 seconds. He followed that up with an 11th place finish in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 10.92 seconds.
Morgan's relay teams showcased their speed and teamwork with strong showings at the meet. The 4x200 meter relay squad, composed of Maxim Copeland, Dante Jackson, Antonio Sims, and Rushshane Fullerton, secured a noteworthy second-place finish, clocking in at an impressive 3:16.45. The Bears continued to demonstrate their relay prowess in the 4x100 meter event, where Jadon Ra-Akbar, Dante Jackson, Antonio Sims, and Maxim Copeland combined their efforts to achieve a fifth-place finish with a time of 41.03, further solidifying Morgan's presence in the relay events.
