Women’s Tennis Holds Off Johns Hopkins, 4-3

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 14, 2025)--The Morgan State women's tennis team defeated local foe Johns Hopkins, 4-3 in a non-conference road match on Friday afternoon at the JHU Tennis Courts.
 
Morgan State (3-6) winners of two straight, has now won three of its last four matches. Johns Hopkins fell to 7-4 on the season.
 
The Lady Bears won the doubles point, which proved to be the difference, as Morgan State and the Blue Jays split the singles contests, each winning three matches.
 
Aleksandra Evdokimova and Marta Serra Carles defeated the Blue Jays' tandem of Jay Xiao and Lia Melvin, 6-4 in a No. 2 doubles match and Tyler Williams and Jula Jeffrey were paired together and posted a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles over Catharina Ausfahl and Zoe Hsieh to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
 
Johns Hopkins evened the match with a win at No. 2 singles where Sydney Langer defeated Aleksandra Evdokimova by retirement after a 6-2 set 1 victory.
 
Morgan State took a 2-1 lead, following a 6-3, 6-1 win by Roua Limem at the No. 6 position, but the hosts tied the score at 2-2 when Lia Melvin captured a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
 
The Lady Bears responded to win the match with singles victories at No. 1 by Lauryn Hall, who defeated Jay Xiao 6-3, 6-3 and Tyler Williams put the match away with her No. 5 victory over Aubrey Zhou 6-3, 6-4.  
 
"Everyone contributed to the big win today. I'm proud of our ladies puling together and getting the team win," said Morgan State head coach Matt Townes.
 
Next Up: The Lady Bears will travel to Saint Leo, Fla. to take on Saint Leo in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, March 18.
