BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 7, 2025) -- Morgan State University faced a tough defeat on Friday night, falling 46-0 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) conference matchup against the Binghamton Bearcats at Hurt Gymnasium.
The dominating performance by Binghamton showcased their prowess, as they controlled the match from start to finish. With the victory, the Bearcats improved to an even 8-8 overall record and strengthened their standing in EIWA play with a 4-2 conference record. On the other hand, Morgan dropped to a 4-12 overall record and remain winless in EIWA action at 0-4.
Binghamton showed up and performed right out the gate as they compiled five technical falls, three decisions, a pin and a win by forfeit.
Morgan State head coach Kenny Monday addressed the challenges his team faced in their tough loss tonight against Binghamton, citing injuries as a significant factor in the outcome.
"It's a tough one," Monday admitted, reflecting on the difficulties of competing without a complete lineup. Several key players were sidelined due to injuries, forcing the team to rely on younger or less experienced athletes to step up and fill the gaps. Despite the setback, Monday expressed determination to push forward, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus as the team works toward getting healthier in preparation for upcoming matches.
'We have kids filling in until our guys get healthy,' he explained, signaling optimism that reinforcements will arrive soon. With only two matches left before the conference tournament, Monday acknowledged that every opportunity to compete and grow matters.
Monday emphasized perseverance and the need for continued improvement. "Try to keep fighting,' Monday said, underscoring the mindset he wants his team to embrace. 'You got to keep fighting. A couple of situations, we got some good matches. But we got to keep getting better.'
For Monday and his team, it's back to the drawing board—a renewed focus on getting better every day.
