Frigid Shooting Start Sinks Morgan State

CHICAGO, Ill. (Dec. 9, 2025) -- With the holiday stretch approaching, Morgan State found itself on the wrong side of a fast start.

DePaul's Kaleb Banks poured in 18 points to help lift the Blue Demons to their second straight win—a dominant 92–49 decision over the Bears on Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena. DePaul moved to 7–3 overall in its final non-conference contest, while Morgan State fell to 1–8 and extended its skid to seven straight.

DePaul improved to 2-1 in the series matchup against the Bears.

OPENING TIP
• Banks led three Blue Demons in double figures, finishing with 18 points on 4-for-6 shooting while going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line. He also grabbed four rebounds. CJ Gunn added 15 points on 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc and pulled down four boards in 19 minutes off the bench. Layden Blocker contributed 14 points (7-for-7 FT) along with three steals.
Rob Lawson was the lone Bear to reach double figures, posting 13 points (5-for-16 FG) in 31 minutes off the bench.
Christian Meeks added 6 points (2-for-3 FG) and collected six rebounds in 27 minutes.|
Elijah Davis chipped in 6 points (3-for-6 FG) and handed out four assists in 26 minutes.

THE DIFFERENCE
• DePaul shot 55 percent (26-of-47) from the field and went 11-of-22 from three-point range. Morgan State shot 20 percent overall (11-of-55) and shot just 3-of-16 from deep.
• The Blue Demons shot 78 percent (29-37)  at the free-throw line, while the Bears converted 77 percent (24-31).
• Morgan State won the battle on the glass, holding a 39–33 rebounding advantage, including a commanding 21–7 advantage on the offensive boards.
• DePaul's outscored the Bears inside the paint by a 30-10 margin, and held a 53-30 advantage in bench scoring.
• The Blue Demons led by as many as 43 points.
• Morgan State opened the contest ice cold, missing its first 10 shots and falling behind 10–2 by the first media timeout. The drought only worsened as the Bears went 0-for-19 from the field before finally breaking through — a pull-up jumper by Rob Lawson made it 39–10 with 5:17 remaining in the first half.
• Morgan State, which shot just 2-for-28 from the field in the opening period, went into the intermission trailing DePaul 46–15. The Bears also committed 13 turnovers in the half and, remarkably, finished with as many offensive rebounds as points — 15.
• A steal and breakaway dunk by Layden Blocker pushed the lead to 60-23.
