Bears’ Rally Comes Up Just Short in 84–80 Battle with Longwood

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 25, 2025) – Jacoi Hutchinson and Johan Nziemi posted 15 points apiece to lead Longwood past Morgan State, 84–80, on Saturday night at Hill Field House. The win gave the Lancers their second straight victory, improving them to 6–5, while the Bears dropped to 1–7.

OPENING TIP

• Hutchinson and Nziemi led four Lancers in double figures. Hutchinson scored 15 points on 3-for-7 shooting and went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc in 26 minutes. Nziemi had 15 points (9-15 FG) and a game-high eight boards. Elijah Tucker finishe
d with 12 points and four assists, while Redd Thompson Jr. added 10 points off the bench.
• Elijah Davis scored a game-high 21 points (8-14 FG), to go along with four rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes.
•  Alfred Worrell Jr. finished with 20 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the field and was perfect from the free throw line (6-6) in 32 minutes.
• Rob Lawson came off the bench and added 18 points and four assists in 27 minutes.
Matar Wade had a solid performance off the bench, finishing with eight boards and a game-high five blocked shots.

THE DIFFERENCE

• Longwood shot 57% (10–15) from the floor and 33% (3–9) from three in the opening half, while the Bears went 50% (13–26) from the field but just 20% (2–10) from beyond the arc. The Lancers also carried a 15–10 advantage on the boards into halftime.
• The Bears held a 35–30 lead before a Johan Nziemi layup sparked a 12–3 Lancers run to close the first half, sending Longwood into the break ahead 42–38.
• The Lancers held a significant edge at the free-throw line, going 29-of-44 (65%) while Morgan State shot a far more efficient 20-of-22 (90%) but with 22 fewer attempts. Longwood also drew 29 fouls on the night compared to just 14 for the Bears, creating a major disparity in opportunities at the stripe.
• Longwood also controlled the rebounding battle, 36–27, with several key moments in the game coming on second-chance opportunities created by Lancer offensive boards.
• Coming out of halftime, the Lancers opened on an 11–3 run, stretching their four-point edge into a 12-point lead.
• With Longwood up 62–60, the Bears forced a missed shot from Jacoi Hutchinson, but Hutchinson grabbed the offensive rebound and drew a foul, leading to a pair of free throws.
• Longwood held a 42-38 halftime lead.
• The Lancers held a 39-28 advantage in bench scoring.
