Morgan State Men’s Basketball Falls on the Road at LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 23, 2025) – Rodney Brown Jr. scored a game-high 23 points as Loyola Marymount pulled away for an 83–56 victory over Morgan State on Tuesday night at Gersten Pavilion. The win moved LMU to 9–4 overall and concluded its non-conference schedule, while the Bears fell to 2–11 on the season.

OPENING TIP
• Rodney Brown Jr. scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to lead the Lions in double-figures. He shot 8-of-14 from the floor and went 5-for-9 from the 3-point line.
• Jalen Shelley scored 14 points and knocked down 5-for-7 from the field, including six rebounds. Aaron McBride had 9 points and six boards, and AJ Thomas added 8 points and five assists.
Rob Lawson led the Bears with 14 points (6-17 FG) and dished out a game-high six assists in 37 minutes.
David Bumpass scored 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting. Alfred Worrell Jr. finished with 8 points (6-7 FT).

THE DIFFERENCE
• LMU shot 54 percent (29-of-54) from the field and went 8-of-23 from three-point range. Morgan State shot 29 percent overall and shot 6-of-18 from deep.
• The Lions converted 61 percent (17-of-28) from the free-throw line, while Morgan State finished at 63 percent (12-of-19).
• Morgan State held a 40-38 edge on the boards, including a 20-12 advantage on the offensive glass.
• LMU outscored the Bears 38-18 inside the paint.
• Morgan State trailed 10–5 at the 15:23 mark following a step-back jumper by Alfred Worrell Jr., but Walter Peggs Jr. responded by drawing a foul on his first shot of the game, converting the three-point play to cut the deficit to 10–8. Loyola Marymount answered when Rodney Brown knocked down his fourth three-pointer of the half to give the Lions a 16–10 edge.
• The Bears stayed within striking distance as Walter Peggs buried an open three to make it 22–16, while Morgan capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 11 offensive rebounds early on. However, LMU tightened up defensively and seized control late in the half.
• The Lions pushed the lead to 29–16 after a corner three by Shelton and a putback from Aaron McBride, igniting a decisive 14–0 run over a seven-minute stretch. Peggs connected on his third three-pointer in the closing moments, but Morgan State went into the break trailing 40–21 after being held to just five points over the final nine minutes of the half.
• Alvin Eugene knocked down a straight-away 3-pointer to trim LMU's lead to 46–29. The teams traded baskets over the next five minutes, but the Bears continued to trail, 53–35. A transition three by Brown followed by a dunk from Martin pushed the margin to 63–39 at the 11:50 mark. Lawson later connected on an open 3-pointer, and Peggs added his third triple of the game as the Bears trailed 70–45 with under 10 minutes remaining.
 • LMU outscored the Bears 43–35 in the second half and cruised to an 83–56 victory.

The Bears return to Baltimore for their final non-conference matchup of the season, hosting Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
