NOTE THE QUOTE | COACH KEVIN BROADUS

"Our guys fought hard. We're just in a spot right now where we're battling to break through. We had some heart-to-heart conversations with the team, and as long as we've got ten toes in, we're going to be fine. It's still early. I know we want to win these games, but there's a reason we built a schedule like this. Facing a CAA team — a team that used to be in the MEAC and now has CAA-level talent — there are no excuses. We believed we had ways to offset things and find a way to win, but it didn't happen tonight. We fought and fought, but we came up short."

"What encourages me is what I heard from our guys in the locker room. There's no quit. Losses like this can be demoralizing. You can be on a ship, but if you don't have ten toes in, you can drown — and we're not going to drown. We're going to figure this out. We've got a tou
gh stretch ahead with Old Dominion coming up, then Drexel, another CAA opponent… and that's by design, instead of playing teams you know you can beat. We're preparing for something bigger than just right now. I just hope we can get this figured out soon."

When asked what he has learned about his team after back-to-back close home losses, Coach Broadus said:

"Today I learned that we've got to pay attention to detail. Things happen, but we can't get out of character, and we have to trust each other more instead of forcing shots and trying to do too much. And, as I told the team — not one play was lost in that game, let me make that clear. Everybody was yelling and screaming at Gene (Eugene Alvin) at the of end, but that didn't lose the game. Let me tell you what lost the game… 40–24 on the glass."

NEXT UP
