NORFOLK, Va., (Oct. 24, 2025)--Morgan State traveled to Norfolk State looking to put a damper on the Spartans' homecoming. Instead, it was Norfolk state earning its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory of the season, following a 3-1 (27-25, 25-17, 15-25, 25-14) win over Morgan State on Friday evening at Gill Gymnasium.

Morgan State fell to 8-10, 5-3 MEAC), while Norfolk State improved to 2-19, 1-7 MEAC. The win was also the Spartans' sixth in the last eight meetings over Morgan State, as the two teams split the season series, each winning on their home floors.

Gabrielle Gilbert tallied a match-high 21 kills and had 10 digs to record a double-double to help Norfolk State end its seven-match losing skid. Isis Castille finished with 10 kills and Mary Nahinu totaled a team-high 13 digs. Jasmine Mataira collected a match-best 35 assists.

The Bears were paced by
Mya Karrick, who had a double-double with 15 assists and 14 digs, both team highs.
Isabelle Brown added 11 assists and
Daniela Ferreira led Morgan with seven kills.

Morgan State finished with 42 kills but committed 28 attack errors for an attack percentage of .109. The Spartans recorded a .270 hitting percentage with 46 kills and 15 errors.

The Bears will look to bounce back at home on Sunday, Oct. 26, when they host Beltway rival Howard at 1 pm at Hill Field House.

In their first meeting this season in Washington, D.C. (9/28), the Bison overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Morgan in five sets.

Howard (11-8, 5-3 MEAC) was dealt a 3-2 loss at league leader Coppin State on Thursday evening after holding a 2-0 lead.
