TOWSON, Md. (Sept. 1, 2024)--The 2024 Morgan/Towson Invitational came to an end on Sunday afternoon, as the two tournament co-hosts squared off in the finale at SECU Arena.
 
Behind a match-high 14 kills from Victoria Barrett, the Tigers would sweep Morgan State, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-19). Towson finished with a perfect 4-0 record for the weekend, while the loss dropped Morgan State to 0-4 on the season.
 
The Tigers hit .367 for the match and finished with 43 kills. Sarah Callender finished with nine kills and Zyare Abdul-Rahim added seven. Maisie Jesse totaled 17 assists and Kaitlyn Moran finished with 16. Sydney Stewart and Barrett would pace the Tigers with seven digs apiece.
 
Morgan State was led by Trinity Carruthers, who tallied team bests in assists (12) and digs with a match-high seven. Mya Karrick recorded nine assists, five digs, two kills and accounted for all three of Morgan's service aces. Daniela Ferreira led the Bears with six kills and Jada Williams added five.
 
Towson would out block the Bears, 11-5 for the match. It marked the first time this season a team had out blocked Morgan State. Ylenia De Mango led the Tigers with eight assisted blocks, while Barrett finished with five total, including a solo block. Morgan State was led by Aubrey Wilson, who finished with five assisted blocks.
 
Next up for Morgan State is a trip to Carrollton, Ga. to take part in the West Georgia Tournament. The Bears will have back-to-back contests on Friday, starting with a 2 p.m. match against Georgia State, followed by a 4 p.m. contest against host West Georgia. Morgan will wrap the competition on Saturday against UNC Asheville in the finale.
