BALTIMORE, Md. (April 20, 2024) — Morgan State University's annual Legacy Track Meet, held from April 19-20 at the Earl C. Banks Field at Hughes Stadium, showcased the exceptional talents of collegiate track and field athletes from across the country. Under the radiant sunshine, Morgan's own athletes delivered remarkable performances that left an indelible mark on the competition.
Among Morgan's standout athletes was junior distance runner Perry Bennett, who showcased an exemplary performance in the 5000m run. Bennett crossed the finish line in a time of 15:16.89, ahead of UMBC's Alex Xavier (15:24.02) and Ayoade Adebiyi (15:30.11). This remarkable feat not only secured him the first-place position but also marked a personal best for Bennett.

Senior sprinter Adrian Holley emerged as a formidable force in the 100-meter dash. With an electrifying time of 10.45 seconds, he secured a well-deserved third place for the Bears. Meanwhile, Coppin State's Solomon Hammond had an impressive qualifying time of 10.22 seconds, ranked #18 in the nation, and crossed the line in 10.32 seconds, finishing in second place in the finals. Ultimately, it was ASICS' Joseph Amoah who emerged victorious in the 100-meter dash. with an impressive time of 10.13 seconds.
The Bears also showcased impressive performances in the 400m dash, with sophomores Antonio Sims and Dante Jackson achieving personal bests. Sims finished in third place with a remarkable time of 47.28, while Jackson secured the fifth spot with an equally impressive 48.13. Junior sprinter Demier Shipley also contributed to the team's success, placing seventh with a time of 49.03.
Another standout performer for Morgan was senior Derrick Robinson, who displayed his ability in the long jump. Robinson soared through the air, surpassing his personal best with an impressive distance of 7.41m. The distance was good enough for a third-place finish.
Morgan payed tribute to its 10 graduating seniors during a special ceremony on the field. The event honored the academic achievements and contributions of these dedicated students as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives.
