Morgan State To Face Lincoln (Pa.) On Wednesday At Lois T. Murray Field

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 13, 2024)--The Morgan State softball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 14, when it welcomes Lincoln (Pa.) for a non-conference doubleheader series at Lois T. Murray Field. First pitch is at 12 p.m.

This will be the third straight doubleheader series for Morgan State against a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

The Lady Bears (4-0) enter the contest having already defeated fellow CIAA foes, Bowie State in the season opener and Virginia Union over the weekend. Morgan State outscored the opposition 34-2 in its first four games.

In Sunday's sweep of Virginia Union, Morgan State defeated the Panthers 8-0 and 11-0. Both games ended in five innings.

In Game 1, Alison Keener went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run and RBI, while Mia Ewell and Hunter Newman each had 2 RBI.

Victoria Fletcher (1-0) got the start and pitched three innings, striking out four. Melissa Paz closed out the game striking out three batters to complete the combined no-hitter.

Ellie Bostedt went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run to pace Morgan State in Game 2. The Lady Bears also got two-run homers from Gianna Ettore (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Fletcher (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 runs), as Morgan scored 11 runs on 11 hits.

Bostedt (1-0), who earned the victory on the mound, surrendered three hits and struck out seven batters in four innings of work.

The contest will be the season opener for Lincoln (Pa.), who finished 13-26 overall and went 5-11 in the CIAA last season.

The Lions return 2023 All-CIAA Second Team selections Tia Brown (first base) and Aliya Rose (outfielder) along with CIAA All-Rookie Team selection Chloe Foster.

Lincoln (Pa.) was selected to finish ninth in the 2024 CIAA Preseason poll with Brown being named to the preseason team.
