Morgan Returns to Action This Weekend in The Nation’s Capital

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 31, 2024) -- The grueling January schedule continues for the Morgan State wrestling team this weekend as it travels to the Nation's Capital for a pair of duals against American and Drexel inside Bender Arena. The Bears and Dragons dual is set for Sunday, Feb. 4th at 11 a.m. (EST), while American and Morgan will meet at 3 p.m. (EST).

Morgan's duals at American will be streamed live on ESPN+ - here.

SCOUTING DREXEL

Matt Azevedo, the Mert and Joanne Hill Head Coach of Wrestling, is in his 13th season as head coach of Drexel Wrestling after joining the Dragons in April 2011 following successful coaching stints at Cornell and Cal Poly. Azevedo has led the program's resurgence and ushered in a new era of Drexel Wrestling in the EIWA. The 2020 inductee into the California Wrestling Hall of Fame is the eighth head coach in the school's history and replaced Jack Childs, who retired after 35 seasons at Drexel.

Desmond Pleasant, Dom Findora and Tyler Williams won their bouts but the Dragons fell to Bucknell, 24-10 last Sunday afternoon in the DAC. Drexel dropped to 1-3 in the EIWA.

• Sophomore standout Jordan Soriano recorded two wins at 141 pounds in duals this week to lead the Drexel wrestling team to its first EIWA victory of the year.  The sophomore was one of six Dragons that won their individual matches as the Dragons defeated Princeton, 20-15 on Jan. 19. The Westbury, NY native is now 12-5 overall and 8-0 in duals.

Desmond Pleasant claimed an 8th place spot on the podium to lead the Dragons at the Southern Scuffle on the first two days of the new year. The redshirt sophomore from Piscataway (N.J.) is currently 11-13 overall and is 3-6 in duals. His two brothers,  Damon and Deon, are also members of the Dragons squad.
