The short story: Nendeh Tarke had a game-high 24 points to help Towson defeat Morgan State 64-60 to run the Tigers to a 3-game winning streak on Sunday night at Hill Field House.
OPENING TIP
- Tarke, a redshirt senior from Gaithersburg, Md., finished with a game-high 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting and added seven rebounds and two steals.
- Tomiwa Sulaiman, a senior from London, England, was the only other Tiger to score in double-figures, finishing the game with 10 points (4-7 FG) and six boards.
- Wynston Tabbs led the Bears with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and had three rebounds and two steals before fouling out of the ballgame.
- Senior guard Kameron Hobbs added 13 points (5-5 FT) in 24 minutes off the bench, while senior guard Amahrie Simpkins chipped in 9 points (4-5 FG) and four rebounds.
THE DIFFERENCE
- Towson connected on 35 percent of their shots from the field and shot just 19 percent (4-21) from behind the arc while the Bears shot 39 percent from the field and connected on 2-of-12 (.167) 3-pointers, including zero three-pointers in the first half.
- Morgan shot 16-for-23 from the free throw line, compared to the Tigers' 67 percent (18-27).
- The Tigers outscored the Bears in the paint by 32-30 margin.
- Towson dominated the paint outrebounding the Bears 16-6, including a 21-10 advantage on the offensive glass.
- Morgan scored 13 points off of forcing 12 Towson turnovers.
- Tarke started the game on fire, scoring 11 of Towson's first 15 points to give the Tigers a seven-point lead.
- Sulaiman made corner three midway through the first half to give Towson a 19-8 lead.
- The teams went back-and-forth trading baskets, then Morgan went on an 8-2 run to trail 27-26.
- The Tigers finished the first half with an 8-0 run led by Sulaiman's five points to lead 35-26 at halftime.
- The Bears opened the second half with a 12-3 run to tie the score at 38.
- Morgan used a 13-4 run to cut the deficit to two with 40 seconds remaining.
- Morgan trailed 62-60 with 2 seconds remaining when Will Thomas was sent to the line, but he missed both free throws. Dylan Williamson sealed the game for the Tigers with two free throws to pick up a 64-60 victory.

- The win improves Towson's series record against Morgan to 19-14.
COACH QUOTE
One of the things head coach Kevin Broadus emphasized that he wants to focus on is rebounding and not letting opponents get so many second-chance shots. "We have to rebound the ball better, and we have to make our free throws," said Broadus. "If we keep improving on these things we have a chance to win."
