Morgan Closes Regular Season With 35-21 Win Against Howard

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 23, 2024) — Redshirt junior quarterback Kobe Muasau threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for another in Morgan State's defeat of Beltway rival Howard on a sunny and crisp Saturday afternoon at Hughes Stadium.

Muasau completed 19 of 24 passes and threw touchdown passes to Myles Miree and Marquez Phillips while he added a 1 yard TD run as part of his five carries in his first appearance of the season.

Redshirt freshman running back Jason Collins Jr. had an incredible day. The Washington, D.C. product ran for 114 yards on 12 carries, including touchdown runs of 59 and 5 yards. Collins also led the Bears with seven catches for 89 yards.

The Bears delivered a decisive performance against Howard, securing a 6-6 overall record and solidifying their position in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with a respectable 3-2 mark. With this victory, they handed the Bison their third consecutive loss of the season, a disheartening end to Howard's campaign which concluded with a 4-8 record overall and a disappointing 1-4 in conference play.

The win also marked the Morgan's first victory against Howard since a 28-24 win at Hughes Stadium on Sept. 24, 2016.

Morgan outgained Howard 375 to 302 and scored touchdowns all three times they reached the red zone.

Howard's starting quarterback Ja'Shawn Scroggins completed 8 of 16 passes for 96 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Cruz to open the scoring in the first quarter. Backup redshirt senior quarterback Jaylon Tolbert entered the game in the second half and threw for 187 yards (13-18) and two touchdowns.

Morgan's defense limited the Bison running game to just 19 yards. They also applied pressure that resulted in nine tackles for loss, five sacks and two interceptions.
