BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 13, 2024)—Morgan State fell behind 2-0, but would battle back to win the next two sets to force a fifth and decisive set, before falling to visiting Norfolk State, 3-2 (25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 21-25, 15-11) in its Pink Out match on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.
Morgan State fell to 5-15, 1-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), while Norfolk State improved to 8-10, 2-3 MEAC.
Madison Grace recorded a team-high 15 kills, but it wasn't enough, as Morgan State dropped its third straight.
Daniela Ferreira fell short of a double-double, finishing with 10 digs and nine kills.
Ainara Fernandes also tallied nine kills and
Mya Karrick totaled a career-high 42 assists.
Norfolk State was paced by Gabrielle Gilbert, who had a match-high 20 kills, while Alexa Harris and Jordan Lyons recorded 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Sydney McCree recorded a match-high 43 assists and Lily Rose-Pichon finished with a match-best 13 digs.
The Bears finished the match holding an 11.0-6.0 advantage over the Spartans in blocks. Ferreira had a match-high five blocks, including two solo blocks.
Addison Metts also had two solo blocks and
Jada Williams notched three blocks, including a solo.
Norfolk State was led by Reagan Chisholm, who had three blocks and Adlene Jideofor also had three blocks, including a solo.
Morgan State will wrap up the first half of the MEAC schedule on Friday, Oct. 18 when the Bears visit crosstown rival Coppin State. First serve is at 6 p.m. at the Physical Education Complex.
The Eagles (9-12, 5-1 MEAC) had their five-match winning streak snapped on Sunday, following a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-12) road loss to league-leader Howard.
Coppin State has won the last eight meetings against the Bears, but Morgan State leads the all-time series, 65-20.
Prior to facing Morgan, Coppin State will take on UMBC on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m.
