BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 21, 2023) — Morgan State University is pleased to announce its 2023 induction class into the Varsity "M" Club Athletic Hall of Fame. The group – comprised of 12 individuals and one historic team – will be formally inducted into the elite Hall of Fame membership.
MSU's Class of 2023 is headlined by a cast of decorated athletes who are the epitome of Morgan athletic excellence: Eugene "Superman" Simms (1971-74 | Posthumously), LaRue Fields - Women's Basketball Coach (1978-1986), Larry Frazier – Tennis Coach (1984-96), Denikwa "Dee Dee" Shelby-James - Volleyball (1990-1994), Reggie Holmes - Basketball (2006-10), Michael Lyons, Wrestling (1977-79), Ashley Preston - Volleyball (2004-08), Mai-Lin Deneen Cooper-Rollon - Tennis (1993-97), Andrea F. Ledet - Tennis (1993-97 | Posthumously), Cornell Anthony Gowdy – Football (1982-84), Kimberly Napier-Hall (1993-97), and Tania A. Robinson - Tennis – (1993–97).
The Hall of Fame Committee will also recognize one team for the Team of Distinction Award. The 1993-94 Women's Tennis Team. The team captured the 1994 MEAC Women's Title under head coach Larry Frazier.
The Varsity "M" Club Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be enshrined during an awards banquet on November 3, 2023, at the Hilton Garden Inn, White Marsh, Md. Banquet tickets are $125 per person and can be purchased online at

The Hall of Fame class will also be recognized at Morgan's Homecoming game versus Stony Brook on Saturday, October 7.
The Hall of Fame class will also be recognized at Morgan's Senior Day game versus Delaware State University on Saturday, November 4. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Hughes Stadium. There will be a Reveal Reception of the Hall of Fame Pictures going up in the Athletic Walkway prior to the start of the football game at 10:45 a.m.
