Morgan State Athletics Programs Shine in Latest NCAA APR Report

BALTIMORE, Md. (May 14, 2026) — Morgan State University Athletics posted a strong Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, according to the annual data released this week by the NCAA.

Morgan State's varsity sports programs collectively achieved a single-year APR score of 981, reflecting the department's continued commitment to academic achievement and student-athlete success.

Notably, Morgan State's high-risk programs — including football, men's basketball, and men's track & field — continue to make steady academic progress, demonstrating the university's focus on academic support and student-athlete development.

While institutions can also satisfy NCAA academic benchmarks through the Graduation Success Rate or Federal Graduation Rate, the APR accomplishment further highlights Morgan State's commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence within its athletics department.

"Our dedicated student-athletes consistently strive for excellence in the classroom, and our exceptional staff and coaches are committed to providing an enriching experience," said Dena Freeman-Patton, vice president and director for Intercollegiate Athletics at Morgan. "I congratulate the seven teams that achieved a perfect 1000 score for the 2024-25 academic year."

According to the NCAA's most recent 2024-25 APR report cycle, seven Morgan State programs earned perfect 1000 APR scores. Those programs included five women's sports — women's basketball, bowling, cross country, tennis, and volleyball — along with men's cross country and men's track & field, further solidifying Morgan State's commitment to academic success across its athletic programs.

Each academic year, every NCAA Division I sports team's APR is calculated using a consistent formula that measures academic eligibility, retention, and graduation. Scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining academically eligible and one point for being retained or graduating at the end of each academic term.

A full list of APRs for each team, including the Top 10, can be accessed by using the APR searchable database. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25 academic years.
