BALTIMORE, Md. (August 14, 2023) — The Morgan State Cheer Bears traveled to Myrtle Beach, Florida for the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) camp last weekend (Aug. 11-13), as they prepare for the new school year.
Two members of the squad, junior Cinaiya Davis and sophomore Maya Johnson earned NCA All-American accolades. The honor is given to those who display superior technical skills, leadership, and strong personal values.
"I am extremely proud of Cinaiya and Maya," said MSU cheerleading coach Theresa Gibson. "This was very exciting for all of us."
"We have, and had a lot of Cheer Bears capable of being All-Americans, but refraining from trying out," added Gibson. "In the past, we got tripped up in the stunting round. But these two ladies were our first to make it through from start to finish. The encouragement and enthusiasm from their teammates and other campers pushed them over the edge."
Out of over 700 cheer campers, there were approximately 85 All-American nominees.
The Cheer Bears will make their football debut on Sept. 16 when the Bears host Towson in the home opener at Hughes Stadium.
Morgan was one of numerous schools honing skills in performance & skills training. The camp also featured cheerleading powerhouses North Carolina State, South Carolina University, Clemson, Florida International, and Coastal Carolina University.
