FINAL RESULTS
DAYTONA, Fla. (April 12, 2024) — In the heart of the NCA College National Championship, the Morgan State Cheer Bears showcased their exceptional skills, placing second in the All-Girl Intermediate Division finals. Having qualified in the second position, the team delivered an electrifying performance, earning a commendable score of 86.10.Â
Despite their valiant efforts, California Baptist University emerged as the champions, securing the top spot with a slightly higher score of 86.80. However, Morgan's second place finish against such high level competition is a source of pride for the university and the Baltimore and surrounding community.
In 1999, the Cheer Bears, set a lofty goal: to never finish lower than their Day 1 performance. Under the guidance of head coach Theresa Gibson, the team has consistently exceeded expectations.
"Since the Cheer Bears finished second after Day 1, ultimately we knew we were within reach of that first place position," said Gibson.
"Coach Quis (Marquis Johnson) made adjustments to the routine and had the ladies make some necessary corrections which brought us closer to that dream. Despite our team leaving everything they had on the mat, California Baptist was able to narrowly edge us out."
Nevertheless, Gibson and Johnson expressed immense pride in their team's performance.
"Coach Quis and I are both so pleased with how the ladies performed while they were here," said Gibson. "The majority of the team are rookie Cheer Bears, and coupled with our returners, they gave us the best that could be given at this year's NCA College Nationals."
"We are extremely proud of them and are anxiously anticipating a first place finish next year." Â

After performing a near-perfect routine, the Cheer Bears stood tall with an unprecedented score of 86.10. Â The team had not only achieved their highest finish in program history but had also set a new standard for excellence.Â
Morgan had previously finished 3rd in 2008 (Intermediate Division) and 2nd in 2022. In the Advanced Division they finished 3rd in 2014 and 2nd in 2015. Last year's devastating torn Achilles injury on the warm-up mat left an enduring mark and the team absolutely redeemed themselves at this year's event.
