BALTIMORE, Md. (June 15, 2023) — Preseason awards predictions have been released by The Bluebloods ahead of the 2023 season and Elijah Williams was named preseason third-team All-American.
Williams, a junior defensive lineman from Jersey City, N.J., registered 60 total tackles (33 solo, 27 assisted) last season, including a league-high 19.0 tackles for loss (ranks No. 5 in FCS) and nine sacks (T-No. 13 in FCS).
Williams' long list of accolades includes being named to the All-MEAC First Team, HERO Sports 2022 FCS Sophomore All-American selection, Phil Steele All-MEAC First Team, Blue Bloods All-MEAC First Team, and BOXTOROW All-America Honorable Mention.
Williams led Morgan's defense to one of the top in the conference in 2022. The Bears ranked in the top 3 in six major defensive categories, including leading the MEAC in scoring defense and sacks. Morgan also ranked third in total defense, rushing defense, opponent 4th down conversions and interceptions.
Morgan is one of only three schools with players within the top three All-America teams, joining North Carolina Central (4) and Howard (1).
Morgan opens the 2023 season on the road against the Richmond Spiders on Sept. 2.
