Women’s Track & Field Secures Fifteen Top 10 Finishes at Towson Spring Open

TOWSON, MD (April 1, 2023)--The Morgan State women's track and field team competed at the 2023 Towson Spring Opener this weekend hosted by Towson University. The meet began Friday and concluded Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bears would produce 15 top-10 finishes, including two gold medal winners. Tia Jackson would capture gold in the long jump with a personal best leap of 6.10m. Jackson mark also ranks second on Morgan's all-time list. Deborah Adekayode also had a personal best in the long jump, recording a jump of 5.65m.

Johnelle Johnson won gold in the discus throw, setting a personal best with a throw of 47.29m.

How it Happened
● Tia Jackson placed first in the long jump, jumping 6.10m. She also placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m.
● Johnelle Johnson won the discus throw, throwing 47.29m. She also placed second in the shot put (13.11m) and sixth in the hammer throw at 45.98m.
● Rachel Field placed third in the javelin throw, throwing 32.65m.
● Destiny Ward ran 57.42 seconds to place second in the 400m.
● Yazmin George finished third in the 400m, running a time of 57.42 seconds.
● Asydiah Pray-Brown placed third in the 800m, running 2:17.16.
● The Morgan State 4X400 relay team, which included Yasmine George, Destiny Ward, Aleisha Robinson and Asydiah Pray-Brown placed second overall, running a time of 3:52.73.
● Inara Shell placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.66m.
