BALTIMORE, Md. (April 27, 2023) -- The No. 2 seed Morgan State men's tennis team (6-11-1) is set to square-off against No. 3 seeded North Carolina Central in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) semifinal action at the Cary Tennis Complex in Cary, N.C. First serve is slated for 12 p.m. and the action will be streamed via ESPN+.
The Eagles (7-15) shutout Coppin State 4-0 in the quarterfinal round on Thursday afternoon.
Friday's winner will battle the winner of No. 1 seed South Carolina State/No. 5 seed Norfolk State in Saturday's championship match.
The last time Morgan and NCCU met in the postseason was on April 26, 2019 with the Bears capturing a 4-1 semifinals victory in Norfolk (Va.). Morgan would on to capture their first MEAC championship in program history with a 4-2 win over South Carolina State.
Morgan has been led by newly crowned MEAC Player of the Year Mikeal Carpenter, who has posted a 13-2 mark at No. 1 singles and is riding a 9-match winning streak. Sophomore standout Niles Rachal, an All-MEAC First Team selection, and senior Sebastian Lopez will also be key players to watch as a second straight championship appearance for the Bears since 2022 is on the line.
NCCU will be led by Kareem Abdul Hakim, Facundo Olmedo and Sebastian Pino who were all recently named to the All-MEAC Second Team.
