MSU Welcomes Delaware State For Regular Season Finale, Senior Day

Lady Bears later forfeit victory to Hornets.

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 22, 2023)-The Lady Bears' tennis team closed out the regular season on Saturday morning with a 5-2 victory over Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match on 'Senior Day' at the MSU Tennis Courts.
 
The Lady Bears honored their three seniors: Ana-Lei Kalawe, Stefania Moysiadi and Asmara Rose prior to the match.
 
Morgan State won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Rose and Hannah Smith teamed at No. 1 doubles to defeat the Delaware State tandem of Kit Yi Kay Au-Yeung and Daria Julia, 6-1. The Lady Bears also claimed the No. 3 spot behind Lauryn Hall and Averiana Mitchell defeating Klaudija Lisovska and Lucia Corte, 7-5.
 
The visitors would win the top two singles matches, but the Lady Bears would win the remaining four contests for the 5-2 victory.
 
Smith earned a No. 3 singles win over Julia, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 and Rose secured her final regular season singles win at Morgan State with 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lisovska at the No. 4 spot. Hall defeated Baluck Deang, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and Moysiadi won her final singles contest at Morgan State with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Corte at No. 6.
 
Next Up: The Lady Bears will now direct their attention to the MEAC Championship, which take place Thursday, April 27-Saturday, April 29 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
 
Match Update: Morgan State would later have to forfeit the win to Delaware State. The Lady Bears ended the regular season (7-12, 2-4 in the MEAC), while the Hornets improved to 13-7-1, 4-2 MEAC and extended their winning streak to four straight.
