BALTIMORE, Md. (April 17, 2023)--Fresh off scoring a season-best 17 runs in Sunday's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series finale at Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), the Lady Bears return home to host George Washington in a non-conference contest this Wednesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Lois T. Murray Field.

Wednesday's contest will be the second meeting this season between the two programs. The Colonials won the first meeting, 6-2 in Washington, D.C. (3/15).Â

Morgan State (21-17, 11-3 MEAC) is coming off a tough five-game road swing, where it went just 1-4. The recent road stretch began with a doubleheader loss at Rider (4/11) and concluded with the Lady Bears dropping another doubleheader, this time to Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday. It would be the first MEAC series loss this season for Morgan State out of the five league series played. The Lady Bears would salvage one game on the road, claiming a 17-0 win over the Hawks on Sunday in the series finale. It was the eighth shutout victory this season and the seventh over a MEAC foe in 14 games. The win also gave head coach
Larry Hineline is 162nd career win at Morgan State, making him the program's all-time winningest coach, passing Ramona Riley-Bozier who recorded 161 wins in nine seasons (1995-2003).

The Lady Bears would finish with 11 hits - as eight different players had a hit - eight walks and recorded 13 RBI in the win.Â
Melissa Paz led the way, going 2-for-4 with a game-high 4 RBI, whileÂ
Victoria Fletcher also went 2-for-4 and had 3 RBI.Â
Nia Lewis finished 2-for-2 with two runs andÂ
Asia Thomas scored a game-high three runs.Â
Sarah Tuzinski totaled a game-high four walks.Â

Anaya Hunte picked up the win to improve to 13-8 on the season. The junior pitcher allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out two in five innings.

George Washington (13-22, 4-13 Atlantic 10) heads to Baltimore on a five-game losing streak.

The Colonials are coming off a three-game A-10 series loss at Loyola Chicago this past weekend in Illinois. GW lost Saturday's doubleheader 0-1 and 8-2, before falling to the Ramblers on Sunday, 7-2.

Arizona Ritchie has started all 35 games and leads the team with a .324 batting average, 36 hits and 23 runs. Ritchie also leads the squad in stolen bases with 13 in 14 attempts. On the mound, Rose Cano leads the team with an 11-12 record. She's started 23 of her 28 appearances and has 12 complete games. Rose has tallied a team-best 71 strikeouts in 139 innings pitched.
