Hunte Receives Fourth Straight MEAC Softball Pitcher Of The Week

NORFOLK, Va. (March 27, 2023)--Morgan State junior Anaya Hunte was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced on Monday.
 
It is the fourth consecutive league pitcher of the week honor and the fifth overall for Hunte.
 
Coppin State freshman Celeste Gonzales was named MEAC Softball Player of the Week, whie North Carolina Central's Takia Nichols was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.
 
Hunte pitched her third career no-hitter and the second in a span of back-to-back weeks. She went 2-0 for the week, with two complete-games shutout victories over visiting Norfolk State, while recording an ERA of 0.00, allowing six hits, two walks and striking out 10 batters in 14.0 innings pitched.
 
A native of Burlington, N.J., Hunte began the week pitching a no-hitter, allowing one walk and striking out seven in the complete-game victory and was one out away from her third career perfect game.
 
Morgan State (15-11, 6-0 MEAC) will visit rival Towson (13-14, 4-5 CAA) on Wednesday, March 29 for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Tiger Softball Stadium.
