BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 23, 2023)—The Lady Bears return home this weekend to host Norfolk State in a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series at Lois T. Murray Field. It will be the MEAC home opener for Morgan State.
The series gets underway on Saturday, March 25 with a single game at 4 p.m. and concludes with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at noon.
Norfolk State leads the all-time series, which began during the 1994 season, 32-26. However, the Lady Bears have won seven of the past eight contests.
Morgan State (12-11, 3-0 MEAC) is coming off a series sweep of rival Coppin State on the road last weekend. The Lady Bears would outscore the Eagles 20-1 in the three games.
Anaya Hunte pitched a perfect game in the opener, the second in program's history and her career in an 11-month span. Morgan then took the second game, 9-1 in five innings, highlighted by a grand slam by
Victoria Fletcher, before closing the series with an 8-0 win in six innings.
Hunte would be named MEAC Pitcher of the Week, while
Victoria Fletcher earned MEAC Player of the Week honors for their performances. It was the third straight honor and fourth overall this season for Hunte and the second consecutive weekly honor for Fletcher.
The Spartans (11-12, 2-1 MEAC), winners of three of their last four, are coming off a non-conference doubleheader split on the road against rival Hampton on Wednesday. Norfolk State lost the first game, 6-3 and earned a 12-10 victory in Game 2.
Norfolk State opened up the MEAC slate at home last weekend against defending MEAC champion Howard and took two of three games from the Bison.
