NORFOLK, Va. (March 20, 2023)--Morgan State senior Victoria Fletcher was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, while junior pitcher Anaya Hunte was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced on Monday.
 
It is the second consecutive weekly honor for Fletcher and the third straight and fourth overall for Hunte.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore freshman Katelyn Smitchko was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.
 
Fletcher went 6-for-14 with one grand slam, eight RBIs and three runs scored to lead Morgan to a 3-1 week. She totaled two hits in three at-bats and an RBI in the Game 1 win over Coppin State and drove in four RBIs with her grand slam in Game 2. In the pitching circle, the Huntingtown, Md. native earned a complete game victory, pitching five innings and surrendering a run on five hits and striking out three in the second game of the Coppin series.

 
Hunte went 2-1 for the week, including pitching both the school's and her second perfect game in a MEAC win over Coppin State in which she struck out seven batters in the series opener. In the series finale at Coppin, Hunte surrendered three hits and struck out five in a six-inning, complete-game shutout win. A native of Burlington, N.J., Hunte threw eight strikeouts in four innings in a loss to George Washington. For the week, she allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out a total of 20 batters.
 
Morgan State (12-11, 3-0 MEAC) will host Norfolk State this weekend (March 25-26) for a three-game MEAC series at Lois T. Murray Field. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is at 1 p.m. Sunday's contest will begin at 12 p.m.
