Box Score 2 BALTIMORE, Md. (March 18, 2022)-The Morgan State softball team opened up the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) season in perfect fashion against rival Coppin State, as
Anaya Hunte recorded the program's second perfect game in a 3-0 victory in the league opener at CSU Softball Field. The Lady Bears would then complete the doubleheader sweep with a 9-1 victory in five innings in Game 2.

Morgan State (11-11, 2-0 MEAC), which ended a two-game losing skid, extended its winning streak to seven straight over Coppin State. The Eagles fell to 2-11 overall, 0-2 in the MEAC and have dropped a season-long nine straight.

Game 1
Last year Hunte pitched the school's first no-hitter and perfect game, whiling also setting the school record for strikeouts in a game with 16 at Delaware State (4/13/22).

11 months later Hunte and her teammates were back at it again. Hunte would fan seven Coppin batters and behind by some solid defense, she would face just 21 batters in the seven innings she pitched to record the school's second perfect game.

The Lady Bears, who finished with eight hits, got on the board in the third inning on a single hit to center field by
Victoria Fletcher, scoring
Asia Thomas.

Morgan went back to work in the fourth inning, adding to its 1-0 lead with two more runs.
Madison Nunez tripled to right field to score
Mia Ewell and later scored when
Sarah Tuzinski grounded out to second to increase the Lady Bears' lead to 3-0.

Hunte, Ewell and Fletcher all were 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Bears.

Coppin's Vanessa Carrizosa fell to 2-4 on the season.

Game 2
Victoria Fletcher would lead the Lady Bears with a game-high 4RBIs, as Morgan State would score nine runs on five hits and totaled 7RBIs in the game.

Fletcher would earn the victory, going the distance in the shortened five inning contest, allowing a run on five hits and striking out three.

The Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Melissa Paz grounded out to short to score
Asia Thomas.
Â
Morgan State would erupt for eight runs in the second inning to increase its advantage to 9-0. Already leading 3-0, Fletcher stepped to the plate with bases loaded and homered to left center drive in four more runs and give the Lady Bears a 7-0 advantage.

Madison Nunez singled through the left side to score
Ky'Anah Lake and
Deborah Hamilton later scored on a wild pitch to push the Lady Bears cushion to 9-0 after two innings.

The score would remain until the bottom of the fifth when Brissa Alvarado hit a two-out single to left field to score Avianna Peterson for the Eagles' lone run of the day and break up a second shutout bid of the day by Morgan State.

The Lady Bears and Coppin State will close out the three-game series on Sunday, March 19 at noon at the CSU Softball Complex.
