Box Score ELON, N.C. (Feb. 11, 2023)—The Morgan State softball team began the 2023 season on Saturday morning with a 4-2 loss to Winthrop in the opener for the Lady Bears in the Elon Softball Classic at Hunt Softball Park. It was the first meeting between the two teams since the 2004 campaign.
Winthrop (3-0) scored a run in the second inning on a homerun hit to left field by Chelsea Roberson and scored another run in the third inning when Macy McCall singled to left field to score Paige Rivas, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead after three.
Morgan State evened the score with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Madison Nunez put the Lady Bears on the board with her triple down the left field line scored
Melissa Paz.
Deborah Hamilton would later score on throwing error to make it a 2-2 contest.
However, Winthrop got two runs back in the very next frame to go up 4-2. The Eagles would take the lead for good on a two-run single by Ansley Lee to score Rivas and KaDedra Temple.
