BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 6, 2023)--On Sunday the Morgan State volleyball team held Senior Day, as it celebrated its six seniors prior to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match against visiting Norfolk State at Hill Field House.

Morgan State would dish out some much needed payback from its first meeting in Norfolk, Va. (10/15) and delivered in the form of a sweep of the Spartans, winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-17). It was the fourth victory by sweep for Morgan this season.

The Bears improved to 8-19, 3-9 in the MEAC with the win and put to rest a three-match losing skid to Norfolk State. The Spartans dropped their fourth straight contest and fell to 8-11, 7-5 MEAC.

Jourdan Page tallied 10 kills, eight digs and two service aces in her final Sunday contest at Hill Field House.
Mya Karrick hit .625 with no errors and finished with 10 kills and five digs, while
Makila Billingsley added nine kills and four digs.
Trinity Carruthers finished with 31 assists, eight digs, a kill and a block.
Alyssa Sampson recorded a team-high 10 digs.
Jada Williams led Morgan with two blocks, including a solo to go with her seven kills.

Norfolk State was led by Shonte Seale, who finished with a match-high 12 kills. Fabiana Mucciola tallied a match-high 16 digs and Sydney McCree had 24 assists, six digs, a kill and an ace in the loss.

The Bears recorded double digit kills in all three sets, including a set-high 15 kills and a .344 hitting percentage in the third and final set. The Bears would outperform Norfolk State in the match in points (51.0-39.0), kills (42-30), aces (7-3), assists (36-28) and digs (44-39). Norfolk State would hold a 6-2 advantage in blocks.

Following Senior Day presentations, senior
Gabriela Hiciano, who has missed the last three matches with an injury, served the ceremonial first serve, then exited the playing court, in what likely will be her last time on the court in front of the home crowd.

Morgan State will host crosstown rival Coppin State in a rescheduled match on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. at Hill Field House. It will be the home finale for the Bears. The contest was originally scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13, but was postponed. Two days later the two teams will close out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10 when they meet at Coppin State in the Physical Education Complex. First serve is at 6 p.m.
