Shepherd Named MEAC Co-Player Of The Week

NORFOLK, Va. (Jan. 10, 2022)-Morgan State graduate forward Charlene Shepherd was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office today. This is the first player of the week honor for Shepherd, who also earned defensive player of the week honors (Dec. 13).

Shepherd shares the honor with Coppin State redshirt junior guard Mossi Staples. Jerni Kiaku of North Carolina Central was named MEAC Rookie of the Week, while Mahoganie Williams earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Shepherd, a native of Killeen, Texas, scored a game-high 26 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and knocked down 12-of-13 free throws in the MEAC season-opening win over North Carolina Central. She fell one rebound shy of a double-double, while also grabbing a pair of steals.

Shepherd and the Lady Bears (8-6, 1-0 MEAC) return to action this Saturday, Jan. 14 when they visit crosstown rival Coppin State (4-12, 1-0 MEAC) in Round 1 of the annual 'East vs. West' contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Physical Education Complex on the Coppin State campus.
