NORFOLK, Va. (March 10, 2026)--With the conclusion of Tuesday evening's fourth annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) BBT Awards held at Chrysler Hall, the 2026 MEAC Basketball Tournament is officially here.

Now in its 13th year in the "Mermaid City" the MEAC Tournament gets underway on Wednesday, March 11 at Norfolk Scope Arena when the Howard Bison, the top seed on the women's side takes on No. 8 South Carolina State at 12 p.m. noon, followed by No. 2 Maryland Eastern Shore against No. 7 Delaware State at 2 p.m.

On Thursday, March 12, No. 4 Coppin State will meet No. 5 North Carolina Central at noon, leading up to the fourth and final quarterfinal game when the sixth-seeded Morgan State Lady Bears battle the three-time reigning MEAC Tournament champions, No. 3 Norfolk State at 2 p.m.

Morgan State, which finished the regular season 5-25 overall and 4-10 in the MEAC will have quite the task when it faces the defending champion Spartans (16-13) in their own backyard. Norfolk State has appeared in the previous four consecutive MEAC title games, winning the last three championships.

When Morgan State and Norfolk State take the floor on Thursday, it will be the 52nd all-time meeting between the two programs and the fourth meeting in the MEAC Tournament. Norfolk State has won seven straight over Morgan State and leads the all-time series, 32-19 after sweeping this season's series. The Spartans won the first meeting 78-52 win in Norfolk (1/22), followed by a tough 69-60 win in Baltimore (2/26).

The Spartans also hold a 2-1 lead in MEAC Tournament action. Norfolk State claimed the first meeting, 90-84 in double overtime in a semifinal game during the 2000 MEAC Tournament, before Morgan State evened the score in 2008 with an 86-65 quarterfinal victory on March 11. Norfolk State then won the third meeting, 53-51 during the 2021 semifinal round.
